FASHION IS DANGER
Channeling my inner tigress, I designed this collection to evoke a sense of hip hop in the tropics. One of my favorite musical artist of all time is A Tribe Called Quest. If you aren’t familiar with them (but guessing you probably are), check out of my favorite songs here. Actually this is admittedly the song I used for the catwalk because I can get down.
It felt like a fun idea to make a t-shirt that I could sell as well. The shirt became a sketch I made of A Tribe Called Quest with the New York City skyline in the background. Luckily the print house I worked with was able to work with me on printing the design on a piece of fabric that I later sewed into a boxy top to be paired with a side zip pencil skirt. They were a bit confused but it turned out amazing and I learned that it never hurts to ask!
Creating a fashion show was also a very cool experience but I’m not going to lie that it was hard! My mind had to bounce from designing, sewing, fitting to coordinating the venue, DJ, creating a speciality cocktail, promoting the event, and so on. But it showed me all that I am capable of and brought me an unbelievable amount of strength and pride in what I was able to achieve.
